Hello world [Dec. 8th, 2007|09:49 pm]

Well its been far too long since my last post to even try to do a recap.  Instead I'll just start from where we are.  For very specific reasons we decided Jacob needed rice in his diet.  After feeding him rice cereal for 2 days and seeing marginal results someone suggested we give him actual rice.  Well, he's a year old, he's eating solids, why not??  So we figure that super sticky sushi rice is the way to go because that will be the easiest to eat right???   Well, whoever suggested that is prolly just sitting at home laughing hysterically at us. Jacob was COVERED in rice.  He did manage to get a bunch in his mouth I'm sure, but for the most part, we had to strip him in the high chair.

Ok, fine, a recap.  with out checking the date, since my last post jacob has:

started pulling up and travelling along the walls.
bumped his head a dozen times
visited the ER again with croup
been a turtle for halloween
Reverted to Nursing non-stop
forgotten to how to sleep
learned to cry in his crib
learned that we will come back to sooth him
learned to sleep for 5 and then 7 hours straight
started to nurse less
decided he loved the tasted of bananas
decided he loved the feel of squising bananas between his fingers
Gotten pink eye
Learned to climb the stairs
decided the gate at the bottom of the stairs was more fun to play with.
eaten cat food
gotten his first hair cut
tried on his first pair of shoes
cried hysterically in his first pair of shoes
Attended his first disco
enjoyed his first Thanksgiving
Turned a year old
Enjoyed cake
learned to open presents (and that the wrapping paper tastes great)

We've been having fun.  New pics are posted at www.natanson.net
I still can't believe we managed to keep a baby human alive for a full year.  There wasn't even an entry exam. Who woulda thunk?

Cuteness continued [Jun. 17th, 2007|09:33 pm]
[mood |happyhappy]

So we're in the kitchen, baby is in the living room, stranded happily on his back playing with some toys.  We know he can roll from belly to back because, well, he hates being on his belly, but since he's never showed an interest in going the other way (since he knows he'd land on his tummy and hates that), we consider him still imobile.   Josh heads into the living room and yells "Tara, where did you leave the baby? Under the computer table isn't a good place for him". whaaaa???  I left him on the other side of the room.

Moments later we film him laughing hysterically as he tries out his new trick.   Check it out on our homepage

He's a happy boy :)  and we need to go babyproof... FAST

Sittin' up! [May. 28th, 2007|06:06 pm]
[Current Location |pinned under a napping Jacob]

Well there's no page in the baby book for "first trip to the emergency room" so I'll have to add one.  Jacob woke up last week choking for breath.  He sounded kinda like a barking seal, it was scary. We headed into the emergency room and it seems he has Croup.  Croup is not a sickness but is a condition that happens because the baby has a cold (which he had) and isn't able to clear the congestion from their lungs.  The airways get inflamed and they can't breathe. Coughing and crying exacerbate the problem and we were letting him cry when he woke up because we thought it would help clear stuff.  :(  He had some inhaled treatments and is doing much better now.  He's breathing fine but has some residual coughing.

On a lighter note we've reached another milestone. Jacob is sitting on his own.  the picture  below is a bit outdated as its from last week when he needed the support of the boppy pillow in order to sit!

Nudged! [May. 10th, 2007|09:05 pm]
[mood |busy]
[music |Remdawg]

Well I've been nudged and nudged I have been. (Thanks gothtique)

Lots has been up where to start?

I fulfilled my civic duty this week and went to the town meeting so that I could vote for them to start the process going for getting 2 new schools built in my town. With any luck they could be mostly finished by the time Jacob gets there. The current schools are in horrible shape and are way over capacity.

As I sat there in the school gymnasium hoping the vote would happen soon I looked around and saw many of the same old devices they had when I was growing up. There were the ropes to climb, and that awful tape measure on the wall to record how high you could jump. I dreaded that thing because when you are already starting 12 inches shorter than everyone else of course you won't get very high. I would overcompensate by staying on the chin-up bar until I'd done damage to my arms just so that I could be best at something. I also would climb all the way to the ceiling on that damn rope. It was a good night, the vote passed and that means that it will be on the official ballot next week. what a process.

In other news, Jacob is 5 months and has been starting to sit with very little help. We've posted some new pics here

He's been making lots of cute noises, so far "Ta" is his favorite. I suppose if you have to wake up at 5am, thats quite possibly the best sounding alarm clock ever.  He really is getting huge, his arms and legs are like overstuffed sausages.

We went to visit his new friend Tristan today, he's 10 days old!. Some of you know my best gal Mimi, this is her first baby and she did it all natural, no drugs. In fact, she was driving around shuffling cars a mere hours before he came into the world. She's quite a trooper.

Next to Tristan Jacob really does look like the staypuff marshmallow man.

What horrible Edward Gorey death will you die? [Apr. 20th, 2007|09:56 pm]

What horrible Edward Gorey Death will you die?

You will be sucked dry by a leech. I'd stay away from swimming holes, and stick to good old cement. Even if it does hurt like hell when your toe scrapes the bottom.

4 months already! [Apr. 1st, 2007|09:01 pm]
[mood |busy]
[music |Planet earth on Discovery HD]

Jacob is 4 months old!!!  Had is checkup last week.  he's in the 50th percentile for weight and 25th percentile for length.  According to the doctor he's not overweight,  he's just undertall.   Welcome to the short side of life baby! (more on that later though).

Since I last posted he's had a cold, gotten over a cold.  Started sitting with assistance, still loves being held so he can stand, started sucking his thumb and prefers it over the pacifier, and had his best photo shoot yet. His intestines are maturing and slowing down so he's not creating as many dirty diapers, but you can almost bet that when he does finally have one, you'll need to change all his clothes.  I finally had diaper change to beat all other diaper changes.  After 5 or 6 diaper wipes had made no dent and pretty much every thing in sight  was covered with at least a little of what my husband referred to as "concentrated evil" I had no choice but to plunk him in the sink.  Neither he nor I enjoyed the experience very much and I have been a bit gun shy ever since.

Today was day 2 with no movement of the bowels... and oh, did I mention that tomorrow he starts daycare?  I've packed some extra clothes, and I'll warn them of the imminent eruption.

yup, so last week I started work 3 days a week and my mom watched Jacob.  This week, he'll go to daycare  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Wish me luck, I'm sure it will be harder on me than it will be on him.

Mama said there'd be days like this.... [Mar. 4th, 2007|09:53 pm]
[mood |exhaustedexhausted]

That oldies song has been stuck in my head for the last 5  hours because we're having one of those afternoons.  Apparently this morning I ate everything the breastfeeding books say could possibly upset the baby (found out after the fact).  He's been cranky, which I can usually deal with... like say last weekend for instance... he had a growth spurt.  we were on top of it though and was exhausted by the end of the day, but survived.  Today it was only 1/2 a day but momma's got some sinus thing coming on and any noise makes it feel like someone is tightening the vice grip around my temple....    uggg, well, he went down hard when he actually did fall asleep which was nice.  with any luck he'll stay down for the night but anything is possible.

on the sad side my maternity leave is almost over and i'm really kinda stressing about it.

Are these mine? [Feb. 20th, 2007|07:02 pm]
[mood |relaxedrelaxed]

Jacob continues to slowly discover his hands. Last week he spent a lot of time staring at his fist and then shoving it in his mouth. This week he seems to actually be grabbing hold of things... and then shoving them into his mouth. He is learning new things every day! His hair is starting to really fill in all around the front of his head, but the original mohawk he was born with seems to be falling out in clumps.

And, in a big step for mom, today he spent an hour in the child watch room in the care of a non-relative while I was across the hall in a yoga class :)  Check out a few new pics if you like.

10 Weeks [Feb. 4th, 2007|10:20 am]
[mood |awake]

Jacob is getting sooo big!  He is starting to discover his hands and spends a considerable amount of time trying to get his whole fist in his mouth.   He has 3 different toys which will react when he hits/kicks them and right now he is much more interested in them than his own parents! Apparently after 10 weeks we have become blase. We can't complain though since he is consistently sleeping through the night these days and starting to get into more of a schedule during the day.  He is also becoming much more vocal and enjoys a good conversation.

We spent Saturday at Uncle Matt D's 4th degree Blackbelt test. Instead of Uncle now we have to call him Master Matt!   More pictures to follow.

Is it weird? [Jan. 27th, 2007|02:21 pm]
[Current Location |nursing station]
[mood |refreshedrefreshed]
[music |Jacob sighing as he eats..]

Is it weird that Jacob loves having his diaper changed?  He can be fussy and cranky and as soon as I lay him down in the changing table he gets all smiley and happy.  He especially loves the bum drying process.  He had some pretty bad diaper rashes when we first brought him home so we we've learned to make sure his bum is completely dry before applying any ointments or new diapers. To do this we have little cotton squares (the kind you might use to remove makeup). After cleaning him with the diaper wipes we take the cotton squares and dry his bum.  To be extra sure its dry I take the square and fan his bum.  This is when he gets extremely giddy.  Am I scarring my baby for life?

Is it weird that he's sleeping through the night at 8 weeks?
Yes, another week has gone by and he's sleeping through the night more nights than not!!  We are  very well rested these days :)

Is it weird that I'm wearing maternity pants and they have pee on them and I don't care?
In other news I'm still wearing maternity pants, but have started to fit into 2 pairs of my regular pants.  I really hope I fit my old jeans soon because I only have 1 pair of maternity jeans and only do our laundry once a week.   Last week he peed on them twice before I got a chance to wash them.  For some reason, wearing jeans with baby pee on them doesn't seem to phase me like I thought it might.  :)
